Žižkov is an urban district located to the east of the centre of Prague. As a separate entity, it came into being under the name Královské Vinohrady I, a division of Královské Vinohrady, and in 1881 Žižkov was upgraded to a city.

In earlier times, Žižkov was a working-class district, but it still retains a distinctive atmosphere. It is also known as the „Czech Montmartre“. The dominant feature of Žižkov is undoubtedly the TV tower, the tallest building in Prague, which overlooks the entire metropolis.The tower is located on the border of Žižkov and Vinohrady, in the area of Mahler's Orchards. The Vítkov Hill, on top of which the monumental National Monument rises, offers another magnificent view.
